Flying directly above Fox Creek in the Big Meadows area to the west of the San Luis Valley, Black Mountain lies covered in a snowy blanket in the foreground. The Continental Divide runs along the ridgeline on the horizon from the south (left) to the north (right) separating the Atlantic and Pacific watersheds.
The large mountain on the right side of the horizon is Conejos Peak, a prominent 13,179-foot (4,017 m) thirteener (mountain with a height of 13,000 feet). This is the boundary of the South San Juan Wilderness and the Rio Grande National Forest in the San Juan Mountain Range of the Rocky Mountains.
