I rarely like to lens scenes of cities or civilization, but I found this scene of a storm edging towards Las Vegas intriguing. A strong rainstorm is approaching from the west as I fly towards Boulder City Airport to refuel.
Traveling across the Mojave Desert while chasing the storm front, I came upon this daunting view with the shadows from the approaching storm causing a natural vignetting effect that frames the city of lights with darkness. I feel it is rather apocalyptic looking.
The mountains directly on the other side of Las Vegas are the Frenchman Mountains, Red Needle Pinnacle and the Rainbow Gardens. On the distant horizon lay the Muddy Mountains.
